If you are ever in Australia, one of the best things you can do for yourself is eat kangaroo (if you're not a vegetarian/vegan). While it may seem a little weird to eat those cute little marsupials, I assure you that they are both abundant in Australia and delicious. While kangaroo can be a little pricey, it is definitely worth it. For those who don't want to "take the plunge" and eat kangaroo, the closest I can come to describing the flavor is steak (even though the kangaroo was cooked to medium, it was a little on the rare side) that has been marinated in Worcestershire sauce for a few hours. The flavor was a little more gamey than steak usually is, but not quite as gamey as venison. The meat itself was extremely tender and juicy- I did not even need the knife pictured in the photo. Overall, if you can get over the idea of eating kangaroo, it is definitely worth it and your taste buds will thank you.
This dish, kangaroo steaks over mashed potatoes was served at Nick's restaurant in Sydney.
